    Qualifications: 

    Ph.D. in a biological science area with a focus in education research or a Ph.D. in science education or learning sciences with a focus in a biological science discipline or equivalent doctoral work is required. For non-biology Ph.D. candidates an MS/MA in a biological science area is required. The successful candidate will compliment an interdisciplinary group of scholars in the science education program who are active in chemistry education research, physics education research, and the learning sciences. Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience, and we strongly encourage applications from candidates who have a record of service to diversity, equity, and inclusion in science 

    Responsibilities: 

    Excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level is expected. Applicants should be familiar with a variety of research-based teaching techniques and have interest in implementing student- centered practices in courses of different sizes and levels. Research in biology education is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate is able to teach courses in the credentialing program for secondary school science teacher candidates, graduate courses in science education and introductory and upper-division biology courses. The successful applicant will participate in committees and advising for the Biological Science Department and the Science Education Program. The candidate is expected to successfully obtain external grant funding for their research program. The successful candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity –in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
