SABER is the world's largest professional organization dedicated to scientifically exploring how to teach biology most effectively. SABER connects members of the biology education research community to provide mentorship and learning opportunities.


Receive special member rates for conference and events


Members have opportunities to receive or provide mentorship in teaching biology and/or conducting biology education research through mentoring groups such as the DBER-SiT and PEER committees and the SABER Buddies program.

Members can join Special Interest Groups; communities for people with similar interests which provide opportunities to learn, collaborate, exchange ideas, and network.


Receive newsletters in your email and access to our newsletter archive.


Members have access to recorded talks and our member directory. Members can also apply for scholarships and travel grants.


Join a committee, vote in SABER elections.

Membership Categories and Rates

Membership dues are paid annually at the following rates:

Tenure-track & tenured faculty/staff/administrators
Community college, contingent, & non-tenure-track faculty
Graduate students

Important note: If SABER membership dues would pose a financial hardship for you, we do have a reduced-fee membership option ($10, see rules and terms) available for one year only. You will see this membership level available when you apply for membership, and you will enter justification for your reduced-fee need in the application.
