    Assistant Professor of Biology

    Valparaiso University invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology (https://www.valpo.edu/biology/). Candidates should be interested in excellence in undergraduate teaching practice and plan to maintain an active research program with undergraduate students. The successful candidate will join a dynamic department of 14 full-time faculty who serve one of the largest majors on campus with 160 undergraduate majors in addition to students in the College of Nursing and Health Professions as well as Engineering.

    Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biology or a closely related field by the time of the appointment. Teaching responsibilities for the year will likely include participation in anatomy and physiology labs, team-taught anatomy and physiology lecture and other introductory courses and labs, intermediate or upper-level course in area of specialty, and senior seminar. Candidates should demonstrate experience or interest in teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution and be willing to engage in interdisciplinary conversation. The successful candidate is expected to practice innovative teaching techniques and teach biological principles in an evolutionary context. Although not required, preferred qualifications include an established record of teaching excellence and/or experience mentoring undergraduate research students. The University provides faculty with core research facilities and equipment such as tissue culture, fluorescent microscopy, qPCR (https://www.valpo.edu/biology/about/facilities/), and start-up funds to support an active undergraduate research program. Candidates should be interested in working at a university engaged in issues in Christian higher education in the Lutheran tradition.
