UGA seeking Academic Professional Associate (BIOL1103/BIOL Student Learning Outcomes Assessment)

    The Division of Biological Sciences at the University of Georgia invites applications for a non-tenure track Academic Professional Associate position to begin August 1, 2025. The position is a 9-month, full-time appointment with equal responsibilities in teaching and administration. The successful candidate will be expected toteach multiple sections of BIOL 1103 Concepts in Biology, a large enrollment, active learning lecture course. This course fulfills multiple University-wide science requirements for non-biology majors. The candidate will also be expected to implement, review, and revise the Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Plan for the Biology major and contribute to Biology major program coordination.


    Candidates should hold a Ph.D/Ed.D in biology, science education, or a related field. One semester of teaching experience as the instructor of record of post-secondary biology lecture course is required. 


    The successful candidate will show evidence of systematic collection, review, and use of information about education programs. They should exhibit a clear and creative vision for teaching several sections of a large introductory biology course. They should have clear knowledge of, and experience with, student learning and motivational challenges. They should have evidence of engaging and clear communication skills, both oral and written. Preferred skills include authorship of peer-reviewed publications in biology education (or related) such as articles, essays, instructional materials, lessons, open-educational resources, etc.


    Competitive applicants should demonstrate skills in crafting analysis and recommendation reports and coordinating with multiple stakeholders. Preferred skills include evidence of education program development and familiarity of trends in biology education.

    -1- to 2-page Teaching Portfolio/Philosophy that conveys your beliefs about teaching and learning specifically to engage non-science majors. Include specific active learning methods you have used in the classroom, a rationale of why you chose those practices, and how they contributed to student learning.

    -List of three professional references and their contact information who are prepared to write letters of recommendation.
