5 Tenure-Track Positions at Utah Valley University (BER specific for one)

    The Department of Biology at Utah Valley University seeks to hire five Tenure-Track Faculty positions in the areas of Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology, and Plant Breeding/Horticulture.

    Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to effective undergraduate teaching utilizing inclusive, data-driven pedagogies and exhibit an ability to establish an active and welcoming research program that centers around the mentoring of diverse undergraduates and leads to peer-reviewed publications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to engage in professional development, collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to promote the university’s mission and values, and serve on department, college, and university committees as fitting a tenure-track position.

    Requirements

    Teaching responsibilities for Anatomy and Physiology positions (three positions) include some combination of Human Anatomy (ZOOL 2320), Human Physiology (ZOOL 2420), Intro to Human A&P (ZOOL 1090), and/or Pathophysiology (ZOOL 4400). Preferred candidates will also have the ability to teach general biology (BIOL 1010 or BIOL 1610). Suggested areas of research for these positions could include science education, comparative anatomy/physiology, biomechanics, evolutionary biology, developmental biology, evolutionary anatomy/physiology, zoology, mammalogy, biomedical science, veterinary science, or related fields.

    Responsibilities for the General Biology position include teaching Introduction to Biology for non-majors and acting as coordinator for the course with reassigned time for the coordination. The candidate will hold a leadership role in guiding the improvement of BIOL 1010 and other general education life science courses through curricular design, assessment, and collaboration with faculty teaching the courses. All areas of research will be considered with preference given to candidates with biology education research or similar.

    Teaching responsibilities for the Plant Breeding/Horticulture position include BOT 3340 Plant Biology, courses in the horticultural program, developing a plant breeding course, as well as contributing to teaching undergraduate core courses which may include: General Biology (BIOL 1010) and College Biology I (BIOL 1610). Possible research areas include, but are not limited to, plant breeding systems, plant biotechnology, and/or agronomic or horticultural practices.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate in a relevant biological field to the applied position. Candidates applying to Anatomy and Physiology positions are also eligible with a professional terminal degree (MD, DO, DVM, DPT, or MBBS degree).

    •  ABD applications will be considered if doctorate verification is received by May 31, 2023.

    • Evidence of experience teaching undergraduate students in related discipline.
