      Description:

      The Learning Sciences Research Institute (LSRI) is searching for a postdoctoral research associate with expertise in facilitating small group processes and supporting STEM faculty professional development. The two-year appointment is full time, starting 1/1/2022 and ending 12/31/2023, with possibility for renewal pending availability of funds. The program associate will join a collaborative action research project led by LSRI, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS), the College of Engineering (COE), Student Affairs, the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE), and the Office of Diversity (OOD) at the University of Illinois-Chicago. The project aims to achieve institutional transformation by establishing and supporting departmental action teams (DATs) to investigate barriers to undergraduate student success within LAS and COE departments and explore solutions to those strategies in collaboration with faculty in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The project also integrates faculty professional development for DATs through the implementation of an instructor credential program focused on inclusive teaching. The project is funded by a federal grant from the National Science Foundation.

      Duties:

    • Oversee the development and implementation of departmental action teams to investigate barriers to student success
    • Provide logistical support for departmental action team work
    • Mentor co-facilitators of departmental action teams
    • Work collaboratively on creating professional development materials for departmental action teams related to inclusive and evidence-based teaching
    • Provide expertise, coaching, and assistance to faculty members during individual consultations, group sessions, and in preparing for conference and workshop presentations
    • Collaborate on the authorship of research manuscripts
    • Collaborate on the preparation and presentation of research conference papers, posters, and talks
    • Engage with graduate research assistants and project team members in the evaluation of professional development materials and assessment of departmental action team work

    • Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. in higher education, sociology, psychology, or other social science discipline
    • Experience facilitating small group processes
    • Experience with conflict management and conflict resolution
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to complete complex projects according to deadlines
    • Excellent analytical and communication skills
    • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship abilities
    • Background working in or with STEM faculty and/or STEM education
    • Experience studying and/or implementing evidence-based and inclusive teaching practices
    • Interest in and ability to design, implement, and evaluate faculty professional development programs
    • Experience working with graduate research assistants
