The Department of Biological Sciences at California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) seeks to fill a tenure-track position in discipline-based education research in biology at the level of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2022. We specifically encourage applications from individuals with research interests including but not limited to instructional pedagogy, methods of classroom assessment, and/or educational technology at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in biology, and who will develop a student-centered, externally funded research program in a culturally diverse community. The candidate should be a dynamic teacher-scholar who employs innovative, evidence-based teaching practices and has a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. Further, we seek a candidate who will demonstrate experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom, and show a willingness to examine and refine instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support various groups of marginalized students. The candidate will be expected to teach existing undergraduate majors’ courses including but not limited to introductory biology for majors as well as lower and upper division courses in their area of specialization. Special consideration will be given to applicants who can teach an upper division or graduate level course(s) in biological data analysis using R and other software packages, and/or other major undergraduate-level or graduate-level organismal courses that would complement the department’s existing repertoire. It is also expected that the individual hired in this position will help to support and grow the department’s Biology Education undergraduate major concentration. Given the nature of the position, we envision the ideal candidate will be collaborative-minded as it pertains to teaching, research and advising responsibilities. A Ph.D. in biology or a related field and postdoctoral experience are required with teaching experience at the college/university level preferred.

Interested individuals can apply at: https://careers.pageuppeople.com/873/eb/en-us/job/501374/assistant-professor-of-biology-biology-education. Complete applications will include the following items directly uploaded to Page Up: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, diversity statement, recent publications (most pertinent to the proposed research program; three maximum), a summary of teaching evaluations (if available), and three letters of recommendation.
