    Hello all,

The Division of Biology at Alfred University invites applications for a one year visiting instructor/assistant professor beginning August 2021. We seek candidates with a background in microbiology and experience with molecular cloning.  Teaching responsibilities in the fall would be a 300-level General Microbiology course with lab for Biology majors and to assist with our first semester Biological Foundations course.  In the spring semester, this person would contribute to covering our Cell Biology molecular cloning labs (which include a synthetic biology CURE, based on Campbell and Eckdahl, CourseSource, https://doi.org/10.24918/cs.2015.2.) A faculty member in this position would be expected to carry a full load of 12 to 15 contact hours per semester. There is modest support for both scholarship and professional development opportunities.

    Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a MA/MS in biology or a closely related field, with preference given to those with a Ph.D. and undergraduate teaching experience. When available, the candidate is encouraged to provide evidence of excellence in teaching in the form of course evaluations (where available), a teaching portfolio, or letters of support.

    Experience

The division of Biology at Alfred University is a collaborative and collegial group of faculty dedicated to teaching excellence. We look forward to welcoming a colleague who will provide engaging and applied learning opportunities for our students, and who demonstrates commitment to teaching excellence, innovation, and equity in a small-college environment.

    Application material must include:

    • Letter of interest
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Teaching philosophy
    • Diversity statement
    • Names, titles and contact information for three professional references.

Questions should be sent to Dr. Geoff Lippa, Chair Search Committee, lippa@alfred.edu.

Review of complete applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Application materials can be submitted electronically using the link below.
