    FULL TIME FACULTY of Biology/Health Sciences:  The Marine and Environmental Sciences Program and the Health Sciences Program at Alaska Pacific University (APU) invites applications for a full-time faculty position with rank depending on educational preparation and experience. Candidates should have specialization in the Biological Sciences with documented experience teaching at the university level.

    The Program Areas

    Foundational sciences are organized within the Marine and Environmental Sciences Program area of the Institute of Culture and Environment. The program are offers a Bachelor of Science with an integrated core curriculum and a broad range of concentrations which include Marine Biology, Earth & Climate Science, Ecology, Fisheries Ecology and Aquarium & Husbandry Science. The area also offers minors in Environmental Policy, Marine & Environmental Science and Mathematics. The MES program also offers a Bachelor’s of Science and minor in Environmental Public Health. At the graduate level the Masters of Science in Environmental Science is for students seeking deeper understanding of the role that field based science plays in determining economic and political policies that shape northern regions. The Institute of Culture and Environment also includes Outdoor Studies, Education, and Liberal Studies.

    The Health Sciences Program offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences; Associates of Science in Community Health & Health Occupations; Undergraduate Certificates in Community Health & Health Occupations and an Interdisciplinary Concentration in Pre-Med and Pre-Nursing. The Health Sciences Area is part of the Institute of Health & Wellness, which also includes the Nursing and Counseling Psychology Programs.

    Duties of the Position

    The contract carries a 9-month teaching load of 24 credit hours for the 2022 – 2023 academic year. We are looking for candidates with teaching expertise in the following areas:  Biology & Microbiology for Health Sciences.  Other helpful areas of expertise can be:  Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Statistics, Mathematics (Beginning Algebra through Calculus II) & Physics. Our teaching needs include, but are not limited to, Introductory Biology, Microbiology, mathematics, and other foundational departmental offerings in support of Environmental and Health Sciences curricula.  Responsibilities also include serving on university committees, collaborating with the department to develop and enhance current programs, and opportunities to supervise undergraduate and master’s student projects.

    Rank and Salary

    Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience and is proscribed by a university-wide salary range.

    Fall 2022

    Qualifications

    Requirements for the position include an earned doctorate by July 1, 2022 in one of the above disciplines or a closely related discipline and has demonstrated success in undergraduate experiential education. The ideal candidate will be able to teach in two or more of the stated curricular areas, but otherwise qualified candidates who can teach in one discipline will also be considered.
