This postdoc will become a founding member of this research team and help me launch new lines of research related to students’ and instructors’ beliefs about their abilities. There is also opportunity for the postdoc to develop and explore their own research questions of interest and gain experience teaching undergraduate biology courses.       Job description

      Applications are invited for a full time postdoctoral research and teaching associate in the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University. The successful candidate will conduct discipline-based biology education research with PI Lisa Limeri and teach one course in their area of interest per year. The Limeri Lab researches social psychology of undergraduate biology education. We focus on students' and instructors' beliefs about abilities, how we measure these beliefs, and how they impact well-being, persistence, and success in science. There are opportunities to work on a variety of projects in this field, including:

    • ·      Developing and implementing mindset interventions to promote success and equity in introductory biology classes
    • ·      Developing and collecting evidence of validity for surveys to measure students’ and instructors’ beliefs about abilities
    • ·      Developing and implementing a pilot intervention to positively shift new faculty’s beliefs about teaching and promote engagement in teaching professional development
    • ·      Developing a research project in your own area of interest within biology education research

    Resources provided to the postdoc include, but are not limited to desk / office space, a laptop computer and desktop monitor, funds to travel to conferences, opportunity to develop their own research questions, opportunity to gain undergraduate biology teaching experience, and access to professional development resources, such as the Teaching and Learning Professional Development Center.


    The successful candidate will carry out quantitative and/or qualitative research to advance theory and translate theory into practical educational improvements. The specific projects will be tailored to the individual’s interests and expertise. In carrying out this work, the successful candidate will mentor graduate and undergraduate students and lead teams of researchers on these projects. They will also contribute to an established discipline-based education research group at TTU, present education research at conferences, and write manuscripts and potentially grant proposals as it fits the individual’s needs and interests.


    Applicants must have a PhD in biology, education, or a related field by the start date and some experience in teaching biology at the undergraduate level. The most competitive applicants will also have some experience in education research and mentoring students in research.

    Stat Date

    The position start date is negotiable, ideally starting by May 2022.


    The base salary is $49,000 per year and includes benefits as established by the University HR department. Funding is available for two years but is contingent on satisfactory progress, which will be evaluated at the end of each year.
