    The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Arizona is seeking to hire a career track Assistant Professor of Practice. This position is an opportunity to join a department with a long history of DBER-Bio research and a strong culture of dedication to undergraduate education. We are seeking a candidate with a strong understanding of active-learning pedagogy who will add to our mission of supporting student success. As a Hispanic-Serving R1 Institution, we have the chance to provide opportunities for a large group of diverse students to interface with biology research. The primary responsibility of the professor of practice will be undergraduate teaching. However, they will have the chance to dedicate 10% of their efforts to DBER-research or scholarly activity. This could be through collaboration with other DBER researchers in our department. There will also be the chance to participate in ongoing curricular design efforts and efforts to build innovations that will enhance the success of introductory biology students.

    Position Highlights

    The Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology (MCB) is hiring a full-time academic year career track Assistant Professor of Practice beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will teach 6 units per semester, participate in department service around undergraduate education and curriculum development, and have the opportunity to devote 10% of their time to research or scholarly activities. Teaching responsibilities include at least one semester of Introductory Biology, with additional classes determined by the candidate’s expertise and interests. The candidate will teach some courses in-person, with class sizes up to 400 students, and others in the asynchronous online modality. Career track faculty have the option to teach online courses during the summer to supplement their salary.

    This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, or related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Undergraduate level teaching experience
    • Online teaching experience
    • Background in molecular biology as applied to forensic science
