    Menlo College seeks a qualified instructor to offer courses in Human Biology to non-major, undergraduate students. Courses will include lecture and laboratory, with a focus on the anatomy and physiology of human evolution, along with parallel treatment of the development of scientific thinking. The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. (preferred) or M.S. in Biology or a closely related discipline and a demonstrated commitment to excellent undergraduate education. The position is for a full-time contract for either three or six years, as appropriate to rank. We will also consider candidates looking for a one-year visiting position.

    Menlo College is a small, diverse, four-year undergraduate college. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers while integrating their studies within a liberal arts foundation. The college is located in Silicon Valley, which allows students a variety of internship experiences and real-world learning. Menlo is a small but growing school (~750 enrollment) that offers small classes that allow close faculty-student interaction. Menlo College is also a federally-recognized Minority Serving Institution (MSI) – both as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and as an Asian American and Native American, Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI). One-third of Menlo College students are first generation.


    Qualifications 

    The successful candidate should have an earned doctorate or MS in Biology or in a related field from a reputable university in hand prior to the start of the Fall 2022 semester (August 2022). Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of effective undergraduate teaching as the instructor of record. Candidates must be able and qualified to teach undergraduate biology classes. They must also possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work in a collaborative and collegial environment.  


    Responsibilities

    The position requires undergraduate teaching in Biology, mentoring and advising undergraduate students, and active ongoing engagement in shared governance and other service assignments at the college level including assessment of learning. The position reports directly to the Dean of Arts & Sciences but will coordinate with other Biology faculty as appropriate to support courses and students. 


    Rank and salary

    Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
