    The Department of Biology/College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks candidates for non tenure-track Teaching Faculty Position in Genetics. UAB is a Carnegie Level 1 research university and academic health center named the Top Young University in the U.S. (Times Higher Education World University Rankings) and America’s #1 ranked Large Employer and #4 ranked employer for Diversity (Forbes, 2021).

    The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to teach a sophomore-level Genetics course for biology majors. Additional teaching responsibilities could include undergraduate Microbiology courses. Teaching, non-tenure-track positions provide substantial opportunities for professional growth and long-term contributions to education at UAB.     With over 22,500 students and 2,459 full-time faculty members, UAB ranks in the top 20 public universities for federal research funding and is the major teaching-research university in Alabama. Interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching is prominent, and the Department of Biology collaborates closely with multiple units across campus, including Chemistry. UAB ranks in the top ten nationally for student diversity, and Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama, offering a vibrant cultural community with a wide array of recreational opportunities.

    Required Qualifications

    Ph.D. in biological or biomedical sciences or related discipline. Laboratory-based research experience in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field. Demonstrated experience and track record of teaching excellence in undergraduate Genetics teaching. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion in education as indicated by an ability to effectively relate to students of diverse backgrounds in a classroom context, including an understanding and respect for cultural, ethnic, and individual differences. Ability to teach high enrollment courses.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred qualifications include demonstrated experience in undergraduate Microbiology teaching, course development and developing instructional laboratory curricula, especially in Genetics or Molecular Biology. Also a strong interest in evidence-based pedagogies including the design and implementation of Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) and strategies to increase inclusivity
