The Vance-Chalcraft lab (vancechalcraftlab.com) of biology education research at East Carolina University (ECU) seeks a postdoctoral scholar for a 1-year appointment with the possibility of extension. The position is full-time with a flexible start date as early as June 2020. The scholar would help lead an NSF-funded project, PRIMER: Pre-transfer interventions, mentoring, and experience with research, on interventions to improve community college transfer student success as well as conduct independent research on elements of biology education.
What is PRIMER?
The overall goal of PRIMER is to identify interventions that promote transfer student success in Biology, resulting in higher academic achievement, increased retention and persistence in STEM fields, and a greater sense of community by transfer students. The PRIMER program includes coordination with various groups at ECU as well as with local community colleges.
Postdoc responsibilities: This individual will complete the following related to PRIMER: 1) work with local community college faculty and students to participate in PRIMER activities, 2) help recruit transfer students into PRIMER, 3), spearhead assessment efforts of PRIMER, 4) facilitate meetings with PRIMER faculty and students, 5) take a primary role in data analysis, and 6) disseminate results in the form of peer-reviewed publications.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline, STEM education, or related discipline, along with strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with (a) demonstrated interest in discipline-based education research; (b) a record of publication; (c) experience with statistical approaches; and (d) a background in life sciences.
