    TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION

    Science Education

     

    The Center for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (CEMaST), the Biological Sciences Department, and the College of Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invite applications for an innovative tenure-track position in Science Education with a specialization in Biological Sciences at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year.  Candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and exhibit potential for independent and innovative research and outreach in science education. A Doctorate in the Biological Sciences or Science Education and some university teaching experience is required. If the candidate’s Doctorate is not in the Biological Sciences, a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences is required in order to qualify to teach both lower and upper division undergraduate biology courses within the candidate’s area of specialty. Furthermore, a demonstrated ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, service, a commitment to work in an inclusive environment, and demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publications in the area of science education or the biological sciences are required. Evidence of excellence in K-12 or university teaching and/or professional development of teachers, experience with techniques that promote student engagement and success, and a strong commitment to working collaboratively with K-16 schools or community groups, particularly in urban and ethnically diverse settings are preferred. The successful candidate is expected to have the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching, and lead and participate in CEMaST-supported professional development opportunities for K-12 or community college science teachers.

     

    Teaching responsibilities will include upper and / or lower division courses in biology and possibly courses for future teachers. The applicant will be expected to assist in curriculum development, advise students, serve on department, college, and university committees, and engage in professional activities.

     

    Applicants should submit the following: (1) a cover letter that describes how the candidate’s teaching and research experience have prepared the applicant to meet the duties and qualifications articulated in the position description; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) a 1-page statement of teaching philosophy; (4) a 1-page student success statement about the candidate’s teaching or other experiences, successes, and challenges in working with a diverse student population; (5) a 2-page max proposed plan of research; (6) three representative publication reprints; (7) the names and contact information of three references; and (8) a completed University application form.
