Assistant Professor of Biology at Saint Louis University

    Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service invites applications for an Assistant Professor position (Non-Tenure-Track, teaching-focused) in the Department of Biology. The department is housed in a recently renovated building featuring state-of-the-art research facilities and teaching spaces. A new Interdisciplinary Sciences Building, currently under construction, will host new teaching laboratories for introductory biology and a SCALE-UP classroom that will enable interactive, learner-centered practices in large-enrollment courses.  

    Major duties and responsibilities will include teaching introductory biology lecture courses (in the context of the Principles of Biology sequence for majors), and participating in redevelopment and implementation of the Principles of Biology laboratory courses. 

    Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (in any of the Biological Sciences) and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring. 

    Preferred qualifications include:

    - experience with learner-centered, evidence-based, instructional practices and assessment;

    - familiarity (or experience) with best practices of instructional design, specifically with development and implementation of laboratory courses;

    - demonstrated ability to work effectively as a part of a collaborative teaching team;

    - interest in (or experience with) mentoring and professional development of graduate Teaching Assistants;

    - interest in discipline-based education research (DBER), and potential collaboration on DBER projects within the department. 

    The successful candidate will begin in August 2019.
