    The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) delivers personalized, hands-on education to undergraduate and graduate students in all areas of biology. We offer a unique PhD degree in Biological Education with scaffolded instruction and experiences for our doctoral students. We seek a collaborative colleague who is invested in the teacher-scholar model of higher education and who will contribute to a vibrant department active in biology education research.

    Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will have expertise in biological education; the ability to provide leadership with the pedagogical aspect of our Ph.D. program in Biological Education; the ability to teach undergraduate biology courses in topic(s) that complement current expertise in the department; teaching experience at the university level; experience with course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs); and a commitment to overseeing CUREs in introductory biology laboratories.

    Also, the ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about culturally responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging racially minoritized students as well as first-generation students who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional classrooms.

    Position Description: This position is for a tenure-track, nine-month appointment at the Assistant Professor rank in the Department of Biological Sciences within the college of Natural and Health Sciences. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate introductory biology courses on-campus in support of the B.S. in Biological Sciences degree program and graduate courses related to biological education on-campus and online in support of the M.S. in Biological Sciences and Ph.D. in Biological Education programs; undergraduate and graduate student advisement; service in professional organizations and on campus committees; scholarly activity in areas of biological education including publication and grant writing.

    Minimum Qualifications: This position requires an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Biology or Science Education (or closely related field); demonstrated experience in biological education research; demonstrated research and publication record in the area of teaching and learning;  potential for or past success securing external funding; ability to teach graduate courses in biological education topics and/or educational research techniques; potential or past experience in supervising research students; and a passion for teaching introductory biology courses.
