    The Department of Biological Sciences is dedicated to basic research and teaching in a broad range of aspects of the biological sciences. The Department has strong undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral programs and substantial extramural support to develop and maintain integrative research programs.     Essential Job Duties

    The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Sciences at North Carolina State University seeks an outstanding candidate for a 9-month teaching-track faculty position in microbiology at the preferred rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, although outstanding candidates for Associate Teaching Professor will be considered. Teaching faculty are Professional Track members of the NC State University academic community and are essential to fulfilling the core teaching and service missions of the College of Sciences. Professional Track faculty in Biological Sciences participate in continuing professional development, including in equity-based teaching practices; are supported in pursuing institutional and extramural funding, engaging in outreach work, and mentoring undergraduates in research; and are eligible for promotion to higher ranks with multi-year contracts.

    The successful candidate will be expected to engage in the following three of six realms of faculty responsibility outlined by the university:

    • Teaching and Mentoring of Undergraduate and Graduate Students (70-90% effort), including developing and teaching courses in support of our vibrant undergraduate microbiology program as well as courses bridging disciplines; coordinating laboratory courses, including course-based research experiences (CREs); mentoring and supervising graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants
    • Discovery of Knowledge through Discipline-Guided Inquiry (5-15% effort), including engaging in reflective and scholarly teaching; supervising undergraduate researchers; or pursuing Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) or Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER)
    • Service in Professional Societies and within the University (5-15% effort), including serving as an academic advisor for undergraduate Microbiology majors; serving on Department, College, or University committees; and service to professional societies.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience
    • Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbial Ecology or a related field.
    • Experience in research and teaching at the undergraduate level in the areas of Microbiology, Immunology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbial Ecology or a related field.
    Other Required Qualifications
    • A demonstrated commitment to excellence in equity-based teaching
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in research and teaching at the undergraduate level in the areas of Microbiology, Immunology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbial Ecology or a related field.
