Undergraduate Biology Education Research and Equity Pedagogy, Tenure-Track Faculty Announcement
The Department of Biology at Connecticut College seeks applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in July 2021. The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching expertise in undergraduate biology and demonstrated research experience in the area of undergraduate biology education, with an emphasis on equity pedagogy. We particularly encourage applicants with teaching expertise in physiology, ethics, and social justice. A Ph.D. in Biology or a sub-field is required by July 2021.
The Biology Department is committed to active scholarship, equity pedagogy, and innovative teaching practices. The successful candidate will develop an active research program focused on equity and inclusion in undergraduate biology education. The Department recently launched a new foundational curriculum centered on inquiry, skill development and critical thinking. The new hire is expected to teach courses in this curriculum, a 200-level Human Physiology course, and courses in our general education program, including a course focused on social difference and power in STEM. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in pedagogy programming through our Center for Teaching and Learning and opportunities for collaborative research with faculty and undergraduate students will be available. The teaching load will be 2/2 in the first year, and 3/2 in subsequent years. In addition to providing ongoing strong support for teaching and research, the College will provide a supplementary research fund and a semester’s sabbatical at full salary after a successful third-year review.
