    Dear SABER community,

The application deadline for the Teaching Quantitative Reasoning with Data Workshop is quickly approaching on Friday, April 5.

The Teaching Quantitative Reasoning with Data Workshop will be held at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota from June 11–13. This workshop covers the wealth of opportunities that exist for engaging students in STEM and improving quantitative reasoning skills through open-ended exploration and interpretation of real-world data.

While employers continue to recruit graduates who possess data manipulation skill sets, instructors continue to struggle with structural, pedagogical and time limitations, making it difficult to teach undergraduate students how to successfully work with data. This workshop brings together instructors from a variety of institutions who will share their materials and approaches, and break down barriers associated with teaching quantitative reasoning and teaching with large data sets. These instructors are from a variety of environmental fields such as geology, Earth science, hydrology, limnology, environmental science, oceanography, ecology, and more. Learn more about the workshop program on the Project EDDIE website.

This workshop also provides special opportunities to:

    ·         Build a community of individuals who are interested in improving the teaching of quantitative reasoning through open-ended exploration and interpretation of real-world data

    ·         Outline a community vision synthesis regarding best practices and strategies

    ·         Learn about Project EDDIE and the teaching modules that are part of the Environmental Data or Macrosystems initiatives

    ·         Inform the design, development and implementation of future Project EDDIE curricular modules and professional development opportunities

Costs There is no registration cost for attending this workshop, and Project EDDIE will cover the cost of dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and meals during the workshop. A travel reimbursement of up to $330 per person is available to help offset participant travel to Carleton College in Northfield, MN. A shuttle to and from Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport (MSP) will be arranged for participants who are arriving by air.

The application deadline for this workshop is April 5, 2019.
